Ellis Water
Mature gravel pit near Shepperton, Middlesex.

Venue description: A large (86 acres approximately) mature gravel pit that is shared with the Civil Service Sailing Association. The venue is home to some very large fish and is the only Society venue where a four rod permit is available. There is a smaller (6acre) lagoon joined to the main lake by a narrow channel.

Parking: On the west side of the venue parking is available behind locked gates some of which is behind swims. Parking for the east side and the lagoon is on public roads.

Species: Carp, tench, bream and pike are the main species although perch, roach and eels are also present.

Additional facilities: A flushing toilet is available. After one year’s membership, members may apply for the use of a small boat for laying baits or for assisting in the release of snagged fish and can be kept on site for a small charge.

Comment: This gin clear water is a hard venue but with top quality fish the reward for those who succeed. Not only do the carp grow big but the tench grow to over eleven pounds and the bream to fifteen pounds. Fishing is allowed all year round. Night fishing is permitted.
