Turnford Consortium
This is a series of gravel pits open all the year round about five miles beyond
the M25 north of London off the A10. The pits are known for large specimen fish
including carp, bream, tench, roach, etc.

Railway Pit - Approx 20 swims
This is considered to be the Carp Pit, although it holds some very good Bream,
Tench, Pike and a reasonable head of most species.
The Consortium stocked 200 Carp in the 2 – 3lb bracket in 1982, and most of these are
now being caught up to and over 20lb.
March Pit - Approx 20 swims
This pit is noted for its very good Tench and Pike. Reports of double figure Tench have
been made in the past, and a bag of seven fish weighing 49lb has been recorded on the opening
night of the season, a few years ago.
During the 1994/5 season there appears to have been an explosion of Perch. There are also
Catfish in residence. In fact, this is probably one of the only waters in Southern England where
they appear to be breeding.
Lee Pit - Approx 20 swims
It is probably fair to say that this is the hardest of the pits to fish, as the water is usually
gin clear.
During the 1994/5 season there are unconfirmed reports of a 35lb Carp being taken, and there is
a very large shoal of Bream, which are usually taken during the night or early hours of the morning.
The Consortium’s policy will be to develop this Pit as a "specimen" water, as small fish do not
appear to show that often; although why this is, has never been established.
Boot Pit - Approx 44 swims
This Pit currently contains a head of Roach, Rudd and Perch. Stocked with 1200 small carp in 2001.
During the 1995/6 season work was carried out to merge Boot Pit and Stock Pit to accommodate
approximately 50 anglers, thereby creating a general pleasure/match pit for members who just wish
to catch a few fish, or club outings on a controlled rota basis.
